Story

“We think you’re really talented, but this just isn’t happening with us at this time, and we have made the decision to let you go.”

Well, there goes my agent.

Oh well, back to the casting sites and self-submitting.

“What is a mobisode?”

It’s werewolves, that’s cool. Let’s see what happens.

Like most auditions…nothing.

A ping from my phone.

An acting classmate telling me they are friends with a producer from “Reelshort” and they’re looking for an Alpha werewolf character.

“I think you’d be good for it!”

“Ah, I actually submitted and didn’t hear anything. Thanks anyway.”

After a moment of sitting and staring out of my window, I picked my phone back up and messaged the Reelshort producer.

They informed me they saw my résumé and did not watch my audition. OK.

“But we’ll go back and watch it!”

Fast-forward 18 months, and 25 microdramas later, the opportunity to be the face of the most explosive new media format in the world had completely changed my life.

A ping from my phone.

Someone from Ukraine representing “My Drama” asking if I had interest in acting in some of their upcoming series.

“Also, do you know of any good production companies?”

“…mine.”

And thus, Esser Entertainment was born.

“Love In The Shadows” represented My Drama’s first United States production, as well as the first microdrama where the lead actor also served as an executive producer.

Fast-forward 10 months, and 25 more microdramas later, I looked around and noticed there were no action-adventure microdramas.

I love action movies, so I wrote one.

The goal? Make it independently and sell it to platforms.

A ping from my phone.

Someone named Tommy Harper asking if I would meet to discuss the microdrama space.

Two days later, the executive producer of Top Gun: Maverick and Star Wars, to name a few, now held the distinction of being the first studio producer to invest in a microdrama.

“Love Under Fire” represented our company’s first independent production, as well as the first independent microdrama production to be licensed on 5 platforms, including Google TV.

Fast-forward 10 months, and slightly less than 25 more microdramas later, the entertainment industry is at a turning point.

The intersection of traditional Hollywood, and the counter-culture of microdramas, isn’t happening…it’s happened.

And while the players may be increasing, the fundamentals of our company remain fixed.

#1: Tell a great, heartfelt story

#2: Reach the widest possible audience

And while the conversations may be getting more complex, the fundamentals of our company remain simple.

#1: Tell a great, heartfelt story

#2: Reach the widest possible audience

Microdramas are a beautiful medium to honor those principles and it’s a space we happen to know extremely well.

After all, we have the most combined experience in microdramas on the talent and production level of any other team in the world.

Now, we aren’t smart enough to predict the future of entertainment. But we’re willing to bet that the above principles will always reign supreme when it comes to fulfilling artistic integrity and maximizing commercial success.
